Davenport Road
To Collect, Archive, and Narrate
A Critical Study and Investigation of “At-Risk” Buildings Around the City of Toronto
The following project was focused on two distinct parts: research and storytelling.
The first part, to collect and archive, was conducted alongside a colleague focusing on collecting data, visuals, documents, stories, histories, and objects about our selected building. To truly understand the history and story 306 Davenport Road holds, an extensive investigation was made as we delved deep into past archival documents, old news clippings, photographs, and many more. With the building currently already being demolished, a lot of the visual speculations were made with the help of Google Maps, and Earth. In the end, a portion of the building, the motif, was selected with the intent of archiving its history, and character.
The second part of the project utilized the collected data through fictional storytelling and narration. With it now being an individual project, a zine was produced as a result of presenting personal visualization. The story was written with 306 Davenport Road being the main setting. Focusing on the spatial element and history of the building, visual elements of collages, architectural drawings, and photographs were utilized to convey the site with a thrilling twist.
